Tux the penguin waddles to last place in Indy 500
When the pale blue "Linux car," also known as car #77 from Chastain Motorsports, was the first car to crash in the 91st Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, we can imagine hordes of geeks wishing it had been a "Vista car" instead. Imagine the "blue screen of death" jokes that could have resulted!
The Linux car, as you probably know already, was the result of a campaign called Tux 500, jump-started by two enthusiasts named Bob Moore and Ken Starks. They solicited donations from fellow Linux fans in a "community powered Linux marketing program" to make the open-source operating system a household name by putting its logo on a race car. Unfortunately, it's likely going to be remembered as "the car that placed last."

Penguins at the Indianapolis Zoo
Opening on May 26, Oceans presented by Old National Bank is an experience Indianapolis Zoo visitors will not want to miss. As the name implies, the focus is those huge bodies of sea water that cover seven tenths of our world, and which are collectively refer to as the oceans.
When visitors reach the returning penguin exhibit, they will notice a transparent panel beneath their feet that allows them to see (and appreciate the speed) of the penguins as they “fly” underwater from one side of the exhibit to the other. Zoo visitors most certainly will be very glad to have the penguins back from their “vacation” in Texas, and they’re bringing home an addition to the flock – a baby gentoo penguin (the first born from the Indianapolis Zoo gentoo flock) that has thrived in his temporary home.

Cute Cartoon Character Causes Controversy
A popular penguin, watched on television by children worldwide, is now at the center of a cartoon controversy.
A South Florida mother is up in arms over the cartoon, which her daughter loves to watch on PBS Sprout, not because of its content but because of the penguin’s name.
“Pingu” is about the adventures of a young penguin and his daily experiences in his snowy surroundings but Maida Rodriguez, mother of a 4-year old girl, says there’s a problem with this cute cartoon character that has her reaching for the remote.
Rodriguez says the name “Pingu” is considered a not so nice word by some Hispanics. “Basically, the word ‘pingu’ stands for male genitalia,” said Rodriguez.
Rodriguez says she’s called Comcast and PBS but was basically told that if you don’t like it then turn it off.

Fury as cherished penguins die in nets
OUTRAGED bird lovers and environmental groups have called for authorities to throw the book at commercial shark fishermen following the deaths of 23 fairy penguins in Port Phillip Bay yesterday.
In what has been described as the worst act of environmental vandalism since rogue fishermen shot dozens of seals off Wilsons Promontory last August, the penguins drowned in fishing nets set about 15 kilometres north-east of Queenscliff.

Confused penguin strays 5,000km
A Magellanic penguin whose natural habitat is the cool climes of southern Chile has strayed thousands of miles from his home, arriving in Peru.
The penguin, native to the Strait of Magellan region of Chile, swam all the way to Peru's Paracas national reserve.
Scientists say the bird appeared to have made the 5,000km (3,000-mile) journey alone.
They say the penguin must have "got off course" to end up just 14 degrees south of the equator.

Buttermilk Penguin Waffles
Woodles makes waffles in the shape of penguins and creates a depression in the belly of the penguin where ice cream can be scooped into. The contraption is sheer novelty and sheer genius! Well every childish sensibility in me was tickled by the very idea of Woodles.

Penguin Joke
A man drives to a gas station and fills up his tank. The clerk spots two penguins sitting on the back seat of the car. He asks the driver, "What's up with the penguins in the back seat?"
The man says, "I found them. I asked myself what to do with them but, I haven't a clue."
The clerk ponders a bit then says, "You should take them to the zoo."
"Yeah, that's a good idea," says the man in the car and drives away.
The next day the man with the car is back at the gas station. The clerk sees the penguins are still in the back seat of the car. "Hey, they're still here! I thought you were going to take them to the zoo!"
"Oh, I did," says the driver, "and we had a great time. Today I'm taking them to the beach."

Penguin can sea clearly now the oil has gone
It may not be the biggest penguin on the planet but it's one tough customer nonetheless.
This penguin was recovered from Tauranga Harbour about three weeks ago, under weight and covered in oil. It is now recovering at Living Art Wildlife Park in Greerton.
"It took us about a week and a half to get all the oil off him," park operator Mark Paterson said.
The little blue penguin is thought to be three to four months old and is a commonly seen species that nests on the shores around Mauao.

Unusual guest goes home
A LONELY royal penguin was a long way from home and unable to swim when he was rescued by wildlife carers at Princetown recently.
There are thousands of royal penguins on Macquarie Island, between Tasmania and Antarctica, the only known place the penguins breed, but only three have ever been seen in Victoria.
A TAFE group found the two-year-old penguin in March and it was taken to the Wallaby Creek Wildlife Shelter at Peterborough run by Annie Fraser.
Mrs Fraser cared for the penguin for about a month while he moulted and gained enough weight to make the journey back to Macquarie Island.

Admiral, The Dapper Penguin
Admiral, The Dapper Penguin
Steiff first produced this mohair penguin for children in 1928, in honor of Richard Byrd’s Antarctic Expedition, which for the first time brought the beauty of this polar region to the world.
Today’s Admiral mirrors the features that made the 1920’s version so revolutionary at the time. His legs and beak are complemented with red paint, which has been carefully applied by hand. His pupil eyes are backed in felt, giving them a realistic effect. And his pudgy body is “weathered” with light airbrushing, as if he has just dried off after a playful swim in the ocean.

The Physics Of Penguin Poop
Benno Meyer-Rochow, of the International University of Bremen, Germany, and Jozsef Gal from Loránd Eötvös University in Hungary found that adult penguins generate a pressure up to 60 kPa (450 mm Hg) to expel their faeces, which equals about twice the pressure of an ordinary car tire and is considerably higher than that of other birds.
